This Sunday, July 28, is your 5th Holy Basil Farm CSA delivery!
The pick list is drafted, and we will harvest Sunday morning to get you the freshest and tastiest goods. This note tells you what is in the CSA this week and gives some updates from the farm.
Projected CSA Contents
Lettuce, Grandpa Admire's: an heirloom butterhead lettuce
Baby beets, mix of Cylindra and Chioggia
Featured Medicinal Herb: Blue Vervain
Grab bag/box of cucumbers, zucchini, and squash - we'll include a mix of these items for each drop site and you can take what you'd like.
The list may be updated slightly on the day of harvest based on condition and availability of product; we'll always let you know if we need to make any changes!
Preserve the Harvest!
The time has come to make pickles and pesto!
We would like to offer shares of pickling cucumbers and a larger share of basil to all members in the month of August. We have planted a few different varieties of pickling cucumbers, and have a lot of Genovese basil on the farm. We don't want to spring these on you unawares, and we can't offer them to all members in the same week. We'll send you a few pounds of pickling cucumbers and 1/2 to 1 pound basil. Please fill out this short survey to indicate when you'd like to receive these items!
It's easy to get your CSA
The drop-off locations are:
North Seattle, Wallingford: 5207 Woodlawn Ave N. CSA will be ready for pickup by 3pm.
South Seattle, Hillman City: 4827 S. Holly St. CSA will be ready for pickup by 4pm.
You will find your CSA in the cooler. It will be in a visible, well marked location. We're using canvas totes in an effort to reduce and reuse materials. The following week the CSA will be in an identical tote. Please feel free to hold on to a bag, or return it to the pick-up site. We will wash them and reuse them.
Let us know if it isn't easy to get the CSA, and we'll make it better.
Once again, thanks for supporting us! Happy to be your farmers for the 2019 growing season. Hope to connect with you in person soon for a drop-site chat, a Sunday dinner, or a farm visit! - Leah & John
