This Sunday, September 22nd, is your 13th Holy Basil Farm CSA delivery!
The pick list is drafted, and we will harvest Sunday morning to get you the freshest and tastiest goods. This note tells you what is in the CSA this week and gives some updates from the farm.
Projected CSA Contents
Beets, Bull's Blood
Lettuce, Little Gem
Peppers, Red & Green Bell
Beans, mixed bag
Featured Medicinal Herb: Plantain
The list may be updated slightly on the day of harvest based on condition and availability of product; we'll always let you know if we need to make any changes!
Pumpkins and Onions and Squashes, Oh My!
Onions have been harvested and after curing for a few weeks in our garage, they will be ready to be sent home to you next week. You'll receiving a mix of red (Rossa di Milano) and yellow (Rijnsburg 5) onions. These will last for several months if stored in a cool, dry, dark and well-ventilated space, such as a pantry, cellar, basement or garage. Avoid storing in plastic.
We are now also harvesting our winter squash and pumpkins, which undergo a similar process. We let them dry out and harden for a few weeks before including them in the CSA, which protects the interior and enables them to be stored in your home for a few months if needed. We grew a wide variety of pumpkins and squash, including delicata, kabocha, winter luxury pie pumpkins, jack-o-lantern pumpkins, and more. Look forward to seeing these in the coming weeks!
It's easy to get your CSA
The drop-off locations are:
North Seattle, Wallingford: 5207 Woodlawn Ave N. CSA will be ready for pickup by 3pm.
South Seattle, Hillman City: 4827 S. Holly St. CSA will be ready for pickup by 4pm.
You will find your CSA in the cooler. It will be in a visible, well marked location. We're using canvas totes in an effort to reduce and reuse materials. The following week the CSA will be in an identical tote. Please feel free to hold on to a bag, or return it to the pick-up site. We will wash them and reuse them.
Let us know if it isn't easy to get the CSA, and we'll make it better.
Once again, thanks for supporting us! Happy to be your farmers for the 2019 growing season. Hope to connect with you in person soon for a drop-site chat, a Sunday dinner, or a farm visit! - Leah & John
